"'Don't be alarmed,' he said. 'You are looking for
Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified.
He has risen! He is not here.'"
(MARK 16:6)

1 Corinthians 15:50-58
Imagine being one of the first to reach the empty tomb. These women had witnessed Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection. All doubts about Him being the Messiah should have vanished. The One who shouldered the sins of the world had just conquered death. The Man who was crucified had risen!

I remember how afraid I used to be about dying. I didn’t realize that the God we serve is sovereign even over death. Now I wake up every day resting in the supremacy of God. Because He lives, I can face tomorrow.

Not only has Christ proven Himself to be the Messiah, but with His resurrection came victory. The Heidelberg Catechism question and answer 17 say, “What benefit do we receive from the resurrection of Christ?” “First, that He has overcome death that He might make us partakers of His righteousness. He has raised us to new life, and His resurrection is a sure pledge to ours.”

Because of Jesus, the lusts of the flesh no longer reign. We have freedom and hope because of what He has already done, even despite our sin.
