Generally, our world loves the flashy act, the bold stroke, the latest trend. People seek the limelight or the “going viral.” They thrive on being retweeted, followed, and liked. Lost in this tidal wave of spotlight-seeking are little things like basic acts of service, small kindnesses, common courtesies, simple thoughtfulness, and modest care.

Jesus took delight in such things. Throughout Scripture we find Him taking time with little children, regarding a woman’s almost imperceptible touch, noting a father’s quiet love, honoring a penny dropped into the treasury. Jesus always noticed. He did so because He wanted us to know that He notices us.

While you focus on the smaller things, while you tend to those marginalized by society or work quietly and without applause, remember that your Savior came to this world in lowliness, grew up in a carpenter’s home, and shed His blood on a humble cross to show us that He cares. His greatest act of love went unnoticed by many, yet it has changed the lives of all who believe in Him.
