"Jesus said, 'My kingdom is not of this world...But now my kingdom is from another place.'"
(JOHN 18:36)

John 18:28-37
The debate about who Jesus is reached a
crescendo at Calvary, and it had to do with kingship. Pilate, the Roman Governor, posted this sign on the cross: “King of the Jews.” Perhaps he wanted to use the occasion to show his power over the Jews by claiming to be killing their king. The Jewish leaders protested, “Write that he claimed to be the king of the Jews.” The Jews outright refused to see anything but that Jesus was an enemy of God and an imposter whose claims were absurd. They ridiculed the idea that Jesus was a king of any kind. They hated Him with a passion.

We stumble on the fact that Jesus is King, even today. This debate between Pilate and the Jewish leaders was futile in light of what Jesus confided to His disciples a few hours before: My kingdom is not of this world. We hear echoes of this in Jesus’ prayer, “Your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” And so Jesus is King Jesus! Those who believe in Him, love Him and follow Him are the answer to
Jesus’ prayer.
