"You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows."
(PSALM 23:5)

Luke 13:23-30
What do you suppose King David pictured in his mind’s eye when he penned this part of Psalm 23? Having spent his youth caring for sheep, he was doubtlessly writing from personal experience. He must have remembered the many journeys he had made with his own sheep to the high pastures. There was no way the sheep could have known along the way that there was a feast waiting for them at journey’s end.

David himself spent many years running for his life from King Saul. Like the sheep from his childhood, David knew himself to be in danger but had confidence in the God who was with him. The Lord took care of David through those years of waiting, and when it was time, David became king over Israel. His cup overflowed!

What is waiting for you on the other side of your present trial? Only the Lord knows, but there are two things you can be sure of. It will have been for your good, and it will have transformed you to more closely resemble the character of Christ, moving you to a place of contentment in Him.
