“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. … And my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus.”

Philippians 4:6, 19
After working for Haven Ministries for years, my wife Charlotte and I (and our two kids) spent 1972-1978 as missionaries in South Africa. We may have been living half a world away, but Haven was still close in our hearts. I’ll never forget a time when Haven and its supporters reached out to me.
The Bible school in South Africa where I was a teacher and administrator had just been hit by hurricane-force winds. The roof was torn off the men’s dormitory, and other buildings were severely damaged. We’d need at least $100,000 for repairs. Immediately! I phoned Haven from South Africa asking for prayer for this situation. Carl Lawrence used the Friday broadcast to ask our Haven listeners for help. With that one broadcast, more than $100,000 came in. We were able to begin work straightaway in repairing the Southern Africa School of Theology.
Paul tells us not to be anxious in anything. It’s hard to put that into practice when disaster hits. I keep learning that our loving God will meet all of our needs and already has done so through Jesus.
