"All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be."
(PSALM 139:16)

Psalm 39
The pedometer is a fascinating invention to me, designed to measure walking distances. It counts the number of steps a person takes and gives an idea of how far he has walked while wearing it. What would be even more intriguing would be an invention to tell us not only how far we have gone but also how far we will go! But the Bible says clearly we are not to know the number of our days.

It is not for us to know when the end of our walk on earth will be, but to understand our God who has measured our days and sees us through. “Show me, O Lord, my life’s end and the number of my days; let me know how fleeting is my life” (Psalm 39:4).

As we walk here through the months and years of our lives, do we genuinely understand and rejoice in the fact that Jesus Christ is our life? Do we rest in knowing He is the one who marks the beginning and the end? Knowing this, we need no longer worry about tomorrow or measuring our days. Our lives – each step we’ve taken and those we will take – are secure in Him!
