Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.

James 5:16
Never underestimate the power of prayer. James explains, “Elijah was a man just like us. He prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the land for three and a half years. Again he prayed, and the heavens gave rain, and the earth produced its crops” (5:17-18). Never underestimate the power of the God who hears our prayers!

As a core member of the West Shoreline Prison Church in Michigan, Ben was a man of prayer. He prayed for me every day even though I wasn’t aware of it. He believed God was working through me in prison ministry, so he prayed. One Sunday night I came to the prison and informed the men that God was calling me to full-time ministry, a journey which would soon begin with seminary. Beaming from ear to ear, Ben told me that he had been praying all along that God would use me in this way.

Are you praying intentionally for others in your sphere of influence? Recognize that our bold prayers are both powerful and effective as we place our trust in the righteousness of Jesus.
