“Don’t be deceived, my dear brothers. Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.”

James 1:16-17
In times of intense “heat”—unexpected, unwelcome difficulty—I am most vulnerable to believing lies about God—about His love, His goodness, His plans for me. In the heat, Satan whispers his lie, “Your God doesn’t care…”
The Israelites were prone to believing lies about God in the heat of the wilderness. They had just experienced an extraordinary display of God’s power, provision and presence in the plagues on Egypt, their deliverance from slavery, and their escape through the Red Sea. Now they grumbled lies against this same, unchanging God: “Why have you brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? There is no bread and no water!”
Truth: God had not brought them out to die, but to worship Him. And He had provided bread— manna—to eat, and water from the rock. But the heat blinded them from seeing His good gifts, perfectly fitted for desert life. Truth: God has provided you with His best, His perfect gift— Jesus, the One who came down from the Father—to fit you for eternal life with Him. Come to Him today!
