A teenager was chosen to give birth to the Son of God?
Yes. Of all humans, God chose a teenager to become the earthly mother of the Savior of the world. Think of 2 Chronicles 16:9 when you try to make sense of it: “For the eyes of the LORD range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him.” The Lord looks for readied hearts which He will strengthen to carry out His will.
Was Mary scared? Oh, yes! Concerned about being pregnant and not married? Of course. But she knew God, and God knew her. Surely she’d spent her lifetime talking and walking with Him. And that intimate relationship wouldn’t stop now. It would deepen as she spoke her faith aloud to the angel: “Yes, I see it all now: I’m the Lord’s maid, ready to serve. Let it be with me just as you say” (v. 38, The Message).
The Lord may call on you too. His plan may be big and significant, or it may seem small and inconsequential. As you spend time with Him, you’ll see that in any task He has for you, He’ll strengthen your heart for it.
