"Remember your word to your servant, for you have given me hope. My comfort in my suffering is this:
Your promise preserves my life."
(PSALM 119:49-50)

Psalm 119:49-64
I did not really know fear until I developed a neurological movement disorder called Dystonia. It hit me out of the blue on my 36th birthday. I started to shake uncontrollably – my head, my arms, my legs. I had trouble walking and talking. My eyes would squeeze shut and refuse to open. I was out of control, and fear gripped me.

As a youth I had rushed into foolish stunts, never thinking of the dangers. As a young man, I traveled unafraid to foreign countries where I didn’t know the language and the governments were not always friendly. But this was different. I was married now with two kids and another on the way. I had a mortgage and a job.
What if I couldn’t provide for my family? What if I were dying?

These were the fears that entered my life years ago. Perhaps there is some fear you are facing today. It may be a recent one or something that has followed you for decades. I can assure you that God is more than faithful. As you read this month’s Anchor, may you see that when we rely on Him, our fears are dispelled.

About the writer:

He deals daily with a movement disorder called Dystonia (in the same family as Parkinson’s Disease). While exploring this Anchor writing project, he and the editor discovered that they sat across the aisle from each other in the same high school writing class in Indiana years ago.
