“May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless…. The one who calls you is faithful and he will do it.”

1 Thessalonians 5:23-24
Many years ago I made a vow to serve the Lord and have tried to keep that vow as best I could. Later, while teaching a college ethics class and discussing an ethical dilemma that dominated the news at the time, God convicted me that I needed to do more than just talk about it. And so I did, though it came at great personal cost and took me far out of my comfort zone.
The vows we make before God are serious. Too often it becomes easier to ignore those vows than keep them. And this is especially true in marriages. But God calls us to do the right thing even if it takes us out of our comfort zone.
Remember the vow God made to Adam and Eve at the beginning of time, promising to send a Savior. In order to keep that vow, Jesus had to move beyond His comfort zone, even to the point of death on a cross.
Things may grow difficult in your marriage. Family life may have you burned out. Relationships can seem like more work than they’re worth. When you feel this way, look to Jesus and find in Him the strength to keep your vows.
