“This was to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah: ‘He took up our infirmities and carried our diseases.’” Matthew 8:17
I had been pushing myself harder than ever before. Caring for the animals, teaching kids, attending social events, hiking, swimming, staying up late, rising early, and fueling my body with camp food left me physically and emotionally exhausted. I had been dealing with a bug for a week but powered through, thinking I could ignore the illness. I finally lay down for a “quick” nap, but someone found me later running a 104. fever. I was taken by boat to the clinic where medication-induced hives soon covered my whole body. I don’t remember much of that week as I was in and out of consciousness in the sick room, but God was faithful. Jehovah-Rapha—the God who heals—was also my Jehovah-Jireh—the God who provides. The same day that I went down for the count, my family surprised me with a visit to camp. My mom cared for me that whole week, nursing me back to health. God is faithful. He will always provide for your needs, both physical and spiritual, even when you feel (or literally are) sick and stranded on an island.
