“The people were amazed at his teaching, because he taught them as one who had authority, not as the teachers of the law.”

Mark 1:22

Years ago when my husband and I were camping along the Colorado River in Moab, Utah, we witnessed something truly amazing. While we gazed up into an ocean of stars, the night sky suddenly lit up, as if an enormous camera flash went off. We could see a huge, magnificent shooting star with a tail that streaked across the heavens, lingering for what seemed to be a minute. God’s exclamation point in the sky left us speechless and struck us with awe.

How much more incredible it is to know that the very words we read in the Bible are God’s Words. In Mark, we are told that the people who listened to Jesus’ teachings were amazed. This word for “amazed” in the Greek means to be struck out of one’s mind. The people were struck out of their minds and completely astounded by the authority with which Jesus spoke. The One who spoke with such power was the very Word of God!

Each time we read the Bible, the Living God wants to speak directly to us. May we never cease to be amazed by His greatness and the beauty of the gospel.
