"So you also, when you have done everything you were told to do, should say, 'We are unworthy servants;
we have only done our duty.'"
(LUKE 17:10)

Luke 17:7-10
Abraham Maslow is famous for identifying a hierarchy of needs he believed is present in every person. In addition to basics such as physical needs, safety, and love, he also included esteem. According to Maslow, we all need to know others value and appreciate us.

Some people seek worth in fame. Others seek recognition by excelling in their careers. Still others keep busy doing good deeds, expecting to be lauded for their efforts. Some Christians obey the Lord, hoping for a reward either in this life or in eternity. But Jesus said when we obey God, we’re only doing what’s expected of all believers, just as servants serve because that’s their job.

Jesus has already given us the greatest reason for our self-esteem. It’s not found in who we are; it’s found in whose we are. When Jesus died for us, He gave us the right to become children of the Most High God by faith. Our Father is the Lord of creation, our brother is His Son, and His Spirit dwells in us. Loved by Him, we can have no greater worth.
