We once lived at the crest of a hill off a well-traveled highway in Arizona. Behind our house were several huge, two-story-tall boulders. One December, my husband fastened our large Christmas star at the top of the highest boulder. Approaching our house from any direction, motorists would see that shimmering starlight. Each time I saw it, I remembered Jesus’ encouraging declaration, “I am the light of the world” (John 8:12).
Followers of Jesus shine, too, reflecting His light. They shine by feeding the hungry, housing the homeless, donating gifts, and a host of other ways people minister at this time of year. But when the Christmas lights come down, does the joyful light of service go out?
Jesus said, “Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the Light of life” (John 8:12). Jesus, our “Light of life,” continues to shine through His followers around the world and at any time of year. If beautifully lit Christmas lights remind you at all of the Light that came down to men, keep that light burning!
