“But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ.”

Philippians 3:20
Anglican Bishop J. C. Ryle (1816-1900) said, “Heaven is a prepared place for a prepared people, and those who enter shall find they are neither unknown nor unexpected.” What a comfort! All who know Jesus as their Savior will spend eternity together forever: family, friends, neighbors, men and women, and young and old from every tongue and tribe and nation.
Yet even in our Christian associations we often don’t consider heaven. We know about it and hope to be there one day. But perhaps we’ve become too comfortable with earthly living to long for heaven. The Apostle Paul tells us “our citizenship is in heaven,” reminding us as well as the citizens of Philippi about the great heavenly society that awaits us.
Stretch your vision for your eternal home. Remember that God “has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of men” (Ecclesiastes 3:11). What is beyond this life? Our hearts are inclined to wonder about it. Jesus called heaven “my Father’s house” (John 14:2), and I can’t wait to go home!
