“Set up road signs; put up guideposts. Take note of the highway, the road that you take.”

Jeremiah 31:21
My husband and I take long road trips, so we chose a car with the latest safety features—a lane departure alert and a collision warning system that applies the brakes to avoid a crash. I mused to myself, “I wish my life came with these safety features!” God gently reminded me how often He has used friends and family members to exhort me, “Stay in your lane!” or “Slow down, you’re going to crash!” Of course, I can always ignore these warnings—to my own peril!
I have known God to give the grace to endure or respond to situations where the heat is “turned up.” But sometimes, I careen headlong into circumstances because I don’t heed His guidance. People who love me may see danger and warn me to stay out of the fast lane of over-commitment. Often I fail to take time to rest in Jesus before rushing into a busy day—and I crash.
Jesus is the rest for hot, weary travelers. Pull over! “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest…For my yoke is easy and my burden is light” (Matthew 11:28, 30).
