"We give thanks to you, O God, we give thanks, for your Name is near; men tell of your wonderful deeds. You say, 'I choose the appointed time; it is I who judge uprightly.'"
(PSALM 75:1-2)

Psalm 75
Leo Tolstoy wrote “The Just Judge” about a king who heard of a wise judge and set out to see him. He disguised himself as a commoner and began his journey. On the way, he met a beggar who needed a ride, so the king helped the man onto his own horse and the two rode into town. Once there, the beggar claimed the horse was his and that the other man was trying to steal it. They appeared before the judge who, after a day, asked each man to identify his horse amongst several horses. Although both men were able to identify it, the animal recognized its true owner. Both knew the horse, but the horse only knew his owner. And the king was delighted to find such a just judge!

In Psalm 75, we see that God will one day judge with fairness. His justice goes beyond any good judge we can imagine. And the best part is that we know our Judge. We’re a bit like the horse from the story who knew his master. Because we know Him, we can say with the psalmist, “I will declare this forever;
I will sing praise to the God of Jacob” (v. 9).
