“Praise the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits—who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion.”

Psalm 103:2-4
You may have found that when you’ve prepared for the loss of a home, job, or loved one, you have rediscovered the gifts you already have. When Lindsey and our unborn baby were rushed into surgery to remove her potentially cancerous mass, my terrified wife cried out to the Lord for help. In God’s grace, her last thoughts before the surgery were not ones of fear, but of gratitude.
In the same way, when I received my orders to deploy to Afghanistan, my anxieties were largely supplanted by gratitude for all I still had—a wife who is my best friend, a little baby I had always wanted, a Shepherd-Savior who had so faithfully cared for me over the years. The Lord fought my fear with the gift of gratitude and met my questions with comfort.
In fact, there is no better antidote for the anxiety, anger, fear, or depression you may be facing than to consider every good and perfect gift given by the Heavenly Father. Most especially, consider His Son and be filled with gratitude for your forgiven sins and a life redeemed from the pit.
