"Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand."

Romans 5:1-2a
Peace is in short supply in prison. There is nearly constant noise and a continual undercurrent of discontent. Incarceration also comes with a sense of powerlessness. We see loved ones struggle through difficult times and are sure we could help if we could just be there. Soon we are worried and anxious, feeling anything but peace.
Paul often ties grace and peace together in his writings. In fact, he concludes almost all of his letters with a prayer for the reader to experience God’s grace and peace. Paul explains in Romans 5 how, through faith, we stand justified in God’s grace, and because of that, we have peace with Him through Jesus.
God’s grace goes beyond justification, though. He also promises to supply all that we need (Philippians 4:19), and assures us that His grace is enough for whatever we’re facing. This is the mystery Paul is speaking of when he says he has “learned the secret of being content” (4:12) or being at peace in every situation. Do you need God’s grace and peace today? Absolutely, you do!
