“Not only is this so, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.”

Romans 5:11
The most recent update of the New International Version of the Bible uses the word “boast” in place of “rejoice” in today’s Scripture passage. Generally, we have a low opinion of people who boast of their own value and accomplishments.
There is boasting, however, that is excellent. Three times in this chapter Paul instructs us to do so. First, we boast in the hope of the glory of God, that is, our hope of God’s presence in the New Heaven and New Earth. Also, there is boasting in our suffering. The Greek word for boasting is sometimes translated “glory.” We glory in God’s grace that produces perseverance, character and hope. And finally, we boast in God because we have been made right with Him through Jesus.
None of this boasting is in ourselves or our accomplishments. It is all in God and the work of His grace, and it’s perfectly fitting to brag on Him because He truly is worthy. Practically speaking, considering Him to be of ultimate worth and saying so is what we call worship. Rejoice and boast in Him today!

Insight

Since the hope of the glory of God, the grace of transformation into His image, and our reconciliation are all of Him, boast in that.
