“Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.”

Matthew 5:48
As we near the end of a month of considering the attributes of God, it is worth pondering how all of these attributes fit together. You might say they are all wrapped up in His perfection. This perfection is not just limited to moral purity. It means there is nothing greater or more exalted than God. If God is God, He will indeed be nothing less than perfect.
The psalmist pronounces, “The LORD is exalted over all the nations, his glory above the heavens” (v. 4). This leads him to ask rhetorically, “Who is like the LORD our God, the One who sits enthroned on high, who stoops down to look on the heavens and the earth?” (v. 5-6) Amazingly, this God who is exalted over all the nations “raises the poor from the dust and lifts the needy from the ash heap” (v. 7).
God’s perfection is particularly made known to us in His coming down and saving us out of our own “ash heap” of neediness. His plan was perfect. We respond in praise: “As for God, his way is perfect… he is a shield for all who take refuge in him” (Psalm 18:30).
