"All the believers were together and had everything in common. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts..."
(ACTS 2:44, 46)

Ecclesiastes 4:9-12
People (that’s me!) need people (that’s you!). We love to gather…and that’s what God intended. Some are drawn to large boisterous events, others to the small, intimate fellowship of a few. But gather we will! It’s the rare (and pathetic) soul who endeavors to live untouched and solitary, cut off from humankind.

Is it any wonder that Jesus chose the large but intimate setting of a wedding feast for His first public miracle? Or that He best describes His followers as a flock? We’re meant to walk in each other’s shoes, share a table, key into one another’s needs, identify with each other in sorrow and in joy, to work, laugh and play in harmony.

Our Lord chose 12 men to make up His closest friends and allies. But throughout His ministry, He also made Himself available to throngs of people who followed Him in increasing numbers. He ate with them, communicated with them, deeply cared for them…sometimes mourning and sometimes rejoicing with them.

Take to heart the eternal and exemplary significance of that.
