“And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ.”

Ephesians 3:17b-18
Think of the things you value: family, your home, community, independence, leisure time, happiness, your work, the environment, Jesus. I visited Nigeria once and was struck by how little value the people placed on possessions, generously sharing what they had. Most of us have more than enough and spend a great deal of time caring for our possessions or seeking to accumulate more.
In the prisons where I worked for 20 years, prisoners were stripped of their possessions. While incarcerated, they were indeed poor. Like those inmates, all of us are empty-handed before the Lord. We look to Him like the crowd did that day thousands of years ago when they were hungry.
The people had heard about this man who did miracles and spoke of the God of love. They wanted to know more. Who could have guessed that just five loaves and two fish would be enough to feed them all? Yet when the food was distributed, Jesus made it more than enough.
His abundant love is outrageous. Where once there was nothing, Jesus fills us to overflowing.
