“For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ.”

1 Corinthians 3:11)
Years ago, storms pummeled the San Francisco Bay area, resulting in numerous houses being destroyed, hills sliding, and streets flooding. I was a college student then and needed work, so I took a job constructing retaining walls. I had to dig deep into the earth, move dirt and rocks, build molds, and pour concrete to shore up the foundations near people’s homes and property.
A spiritual foundation that has been dug deep and made solid is imperative for believers. This foundation is constructed on eternal principles hidden in our hearts so that as we face life, our Heavenly Father fortifies and strengthens us to serve Him.
You may know the 1700s hymn How Firm a Foundation. Its first lines say, “How firm a foundation you saints of the Lord, is laid for your faith in His excellent Word!”
Psalm 119’s writer declares, “Oh, how I love your law! I meditate on it all day long” (v. 97). Take a few minutes today to recall the old hymn and to focus on the psalmist’s words. The Spirit of Jesus, your Lord, will encourage you.
