“You are my hiding place; you will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance.” Psalm 32:7

Mark 6:32-34
What a comforting thought! I am never alone, for He is with me, surrounding me with songs—like a mother singing a lullaby to a child or like a shepherd humming a calming song to the flock.
In ancient Israel a flock was never unattended. The shepherd, often the owner or the one having at least part ownership, stayed with the sheep and cared for them. A hireling, after all, might not be entirely trustworthy since the sheep didn’t belong to him. But as the protector of and provider for the flock, the owner-shepherd faithfully, committedly cared for his sheep.
One day Jesus saw the multitudes of people on a mountainside before Him. Through His owner- shepherd’s eyes, He saw them growing weary and scattering as shepherdless sheep. He was moved with compassion, feeling immediate love for them because He not only was leading them, but He also “owned” them.
Your Shepherd and heavenly Father is filled with compassion for you, too. He feeds you, guards you, and guides you. He purchased you with His life and will be with you always.
