"The man said, 'Who made you ruler and judge over us? Are you thinking of killing me as you killed the Egyptian?' Then Moses was afraid and thought, 'What I did must have become known.'"
(EXODUS 2:14)

Exodus 2:1-14
Moses had killed a man in anger and thought he’d managed to conceal the deed. But he was justifiably afraid of getting caught, so he did what many a murderer has done: he skipped town. Leaving the luxury and the privilege of Pharaoh’s court for the wilderness of Midian, he became
a shepherd.

Of course, the Lord went on to use Moses in a powerful way, not because of his temper, but in spite of it. Through the years the Lord made a far different leader of him as a shepherd than Moses would have been as a member of Pharaoh’s court.

Moses never forgot that he was running from justice. He took a wife in Midian, and their son’s name means, “I have been a sojourner in a foreign land” (Exodus 2:22). For the rest of his life, Moses was without a permanent home.

God taught Moses on Mt. Sinai that He forgives those who put their trust in Him and that there will one day be rest in the Promised Land. We are being pointed to the perfect rest we will one day find in eternity when all of our fear and running are over!
