The evening primrose is a lovely flower, blooming heartily in most any soil. I encountered it thriving next to the foundation of my son’s home in northern California, so I inquired about bringing a few plantings back home to Virginia. He firmly warned me not to even consider this because the plant is extremely invasive and could not be contained or destroyed. Ignoring his warning, I now have clear evidence of that truth in my gardens several years later!
Quarrels can be like that, too. James says that we want something but don’t get it, so we quarrel and fight instead of asking God to meet the need. Taking matters into our own hands may lead to more conflict. “Starting a quarrel is like breaching a dam; so drop the matter before a dispute breaks out” (Proverbs 17:14). Our foolishness can spill out like water over a dam or spread like an invasive plant.
The Spirit of Christ living in us gives us the power to walk the paths of wisdom and righteousness. Let His faithful wisdom take root, grow, and spread.
