“Coming up to them at that very moment, she gave thanks to God and spoke about the child to all who were looking forward to the redemption of Jerusalem.”

Luke 2:38
After nearly 60 years of marriage, my mother could not remember what life was even like without my dad. They had grown so close, they even thought alike. So many years of devoted love had built a treasured relationship for all those around to see, a picture of God’s longsuffering commitment to us.

Anna spent 84 years of devotion to the love of her life, her Lord and God. She lived physically close to God, never leaving the temple which represented His dwelling place. Through times of fasting and years of praying, she had grown so close to her Lord, she was able to recognize His Son, the Messiah, immediately. She thanked God and spoke of this treasure to all who would hear.

We were made to be in relationship with others, but most importantly we were made for an intimate relationship with our Creator. Like all treasured relationships, this takes an investment of time. “Come near to God, and he will come near to you” (James 4:8). Although we don’t live in the temple like Anna, we can abide in Christ as He lives in us.
