During the past year of tragedies at our church, I began to fear when my husband drove for hours for his work. With all of the trials our friends kept facing, it seemed like a question not of if disaster would come, but when. And yes, it is true we will all be called to suffer and it will be a mark of being one of Christ’s own: “Now if we are children, then we are heirs – heirs of God and co-heirs in Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory” (Romans 8:17). Yet though we are to expect suffering, God forbids us to fear it or to imagine what and when it will be.


We may not know what the future holds (nearly every day we are presented with death’s harsh realities somehow), but we ought to not worry our days away; it will only result in lost joy. God says that He will cover us with feathers (v.4). Our Lord is a warm dove, protecting His children from wind and rain, thunder and lightning…keeping us through the extreme trials as well as the daily
car rides.
