“…where for forty days he was tempted by devil. He ate nothing during those days, and at the end of them he was hungry.”

Luke 4:2
The Holy Spirit led Jesus into the desert, away from the crowds and comforts of the world. This was a strategic move by the Father as the desert would be a place where the Son would see firsthand what it is to depend solely on His Abba’s love.
During those 40 days Jesus quieted His soul, prayed, fasted, and grew in intimacy with His Father. Jesus demonstrated total dependence on Him by saying “no” to His fleshly need of food. This radical dependence was preparation for His upcoming ministry and the onslaught of Satan’s attacks on His identity. Right now you may find yourself in a harsh desert place. Perhaps you have been denied parole again, you’ve lost a loved one or hit a financial crisis. Maybe you suffer from a chronic illness, feel abandoned, or face spiritual warfare. Let this season of testing drive you to prayer and perhaps fasting.
When you quiet your soul, you become like a dependent child leaning on the Father’s everlasting arms of love. From your desert place will spring up life that is rich because of Jesus.
