“But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”

Matthew 6:33
Jesus spent a lot of time teaching about His kingdom, especially in what we know as the Sermon on the Mount. He desperately wanted His disciples and His followers to live with heaven in sight. Jesus warns us not to pile up earthly treasures that don’t last. He points out the birds which don’t sow or reap but are fed daily by God. He tells us not to worry about our tomorrows or what we will eat or wear. We need to keep heaven in mind while living on earth.
Years ago I counseled a young couple who seemed to have everything this world can give. Though their material possessions and bank account were impressive, their marriage was in shambles. The nice cars in the garage of the lovely home were not saving them from divorce. When I asked them about where the Lord fit into their lives, they hung their heads in shame.
When we put our earthly treasures on the throne of our lives, the Lord will give us over to those things. Treasure Jesus instead and keep Him on the throne of your life; He’s the only one who can save you!
