“And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever—the Spirit of truth.”

John 14:16-17a
Good parents dedicate their lives to preparing their kids for life in the world. We are God’s children and can be confident that—far more than even good earthly parents—He has prepared well for us. His Spirit is assigned to us at the moment of faith, to guide us, comfort us, and help us show Jesus to others. John’s Gospel reminds us that God’s Spirit is our Counselor and is with us forever.
I have realized over the years how desperately I look to God’s Spirit for strength in my walk of faith, for comfort and counsel. He promises to guide us into all truth, help us go wisely into what lies ahead, pry into our hearts when we stray, and lead us back to Jesus. Through the Holy Spirit, others will see Jesus in us.
In his book, Getting Acquainted with the Holy Spirit R. Michael Baldock tells of Hudson Taylor, a missionary to China in the mid- to late-1800s, who was quoted as saying, “If you are a Spirit-filled Christian, your spouse will know it, your children will know it, and even your dog or cat will know it” (2017).
