"Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God - this is your spiritual act of worship."
(ROMANS 12:1)

1 Corinthians 6:19; 15:42-58
After God fashioned Adam out of the dust of the earth, He paused and saw that everything He had made was “very good” (Genesis 1:31). Our bodies are “fearfully and wonderfully made” (Psalm 139:14). This is so important. Why? Because there exists a tendency in the church to think of our bodies as evil and only our souls – or spirits – as good. Throughout church history, the lie has been told that true spirituality is in denying the body. Sometimes people have been forbidden to marry. Don’t do this, don’t do that!

The gnostic heresy of the early 2nd century taught and perpetuated this false view of the body. Death brought the good spirit’s release, they said. But we must remember that God came to earth in a physical human body. He rose bodily from the grave. We have a real man in heaven right now! It is our sin nature that’s evil. Paul asked, “Who will rescue me from this body of death” (Romans 7:24)? We give thanks to God through Jesus Christ that we belong to Him not just in our spirits, but also in our bodies.
