"Therefore let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified,
both Lord and Christ."
(ACTS 2:36)

Acts 2:1-24, 36-39
I like to think that the kingdom of God was inaugurated at Pentecost when the Holy Spirit fell with dramatic power on the 120 or so believers in Jerusalem. Normally a new king is seated on the throne of power with fanfare and flags. Jesus established His kingdom when He was not even physically present, but in heaven at the right hand of His Father, where He was already vested with all authority. It boggles the mind that no throne, no crown, no scepter, no blaring of bugles, and no army saluting the new king were to be found in Jerusalem. It was just an ordinary room with ordinary people.

Even though Jesus was not physically present, His divine presence dominated the scene. Peter, the fisherman, explained what was happening, assuring them that Jesus was the One promised in the Scriptures to sit on the throne of King David. His kingdom is now among mankind, among all who would believe.

God did not desert Israel, but the extraordinary kingdom of heaven would look all new: Jews and Gentiles alike
are welcome!
