“Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost.”

Isaiah 55:1
We had been packing to move when friends called. “We’re coming over, and we’re bringing dinner. Don’t worry about how you look or how the house looks. And don’t even think about paying for the food!”
Come! Drop everything and come as you are. Hungry? There’s food. No money? Don’t worry, it’s on me. This is the free offer of the gospel that was trumpeted by Isaiah. It’s the world’s greatest news, that God has done all the work so that we can come home to Him. It’s an invitation to His feast, and He won’t take “no” for an answer. It’s also a daily offer to come and be fed by the finished work of Christ.
Then why don’t we drop everything and come running? Maybe because we know our lives are a mess and we want to clean up a bit first. Or possibly because it sounds too good to be true. Or could it be that we think we’re just too busy to add one more thing to our list? We are reluctant guests, every one of us. But He is the persistent host saying, “Come, come, come!” Come hungry and empty. Sit, eat, and be filled.
