“I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of sharing in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death.”

Philippians 3:10
New Life Prison Community is one of two prison congregations which has a Stephen Ministry Program. In Stephen Ministry, people are trained to walk alongside those who are facing a life crisis such as divorce, disease, grief, death of a loved one, relocation, or financial setback. Although Stephen ministers provide care, God provides the cure.

In the first module of the training, students learn about the caregiver’s “compass” whose four points are compassion, trustworthiness, skill, and faithfulness. At the center of the compass are the Greek letters chi and rho, a Christogram (or monogram) for Jesus Christ. So the training indicates that Jesus, the One who heals, must be at the very center of Christian care.

If you sometimes struggle to keep Christ at the center of your life, think how much more challenging that can be for our believing brothers and sisters behind the walls of prisons. Pray for them. They need the healing that only Jesus gives. Pray that in your own life as well you would have Christ on the throne.
