Our infinite God is loving and just at the same time. He is the author of the law that we must obey perfectly to live, yet we violate and break His commandments each day.
God demonstrated both His perfect love and His perfect justice on the cross. There His steadfast love and His righteousness met; it was as if they kissed each other (see Psalm 85:10). On the one hand, God poured His full wrath on Christ as a substitute for believers. On the other, He demonstrated His love which would go to any length to save us. So the psalmist writes, “He will not always accuse,” because God has condemned His only Son Jesus Christ in our place, once and for all, in order to gather us to Himself again.
Yes, we continue to break His commandments even when we know better… even when we know He died for our failures. But we can always come to Him confidently by faith, throwing ourselves into His loving fatherly arms, confessing our sins, and asking for forgiveness.
