“Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.”

Jeremiah 33:3
In the middle of trials and hardships, it becomes hard even to call on the name of the Lord. The problems of this world pull us down in mind and spirit. Depression can take root.
In this passage from the book of Jeremiah, Israel is still in exile, and the prophet Jeremiah is in prison. Yet the Lord exhorts His people to call on Him. Particularly when life looks bleak, this is exactly what we need to do: call on the Lord and seek wisdom from Him. Our difficulties may not vanish instantly as we would like, but the Lord has His purposes, shaping us and teaching us so we become more and more like Him. Trials may last longer than we want, but no longer than the Lord wants.
Seek Him on the difficult days when you are down, and He will answer you in His perfect way. His thoughts are not our thoughts, and His wisdom is higher than the heavens are from the earth (see Isaiah 55:8-9). In our human frailty we don’t see, hear, or understand as the Lord does. But He makes the blind to see, the deaf to hear, and the lame to walk.
