“He will not let your foot slip— he who watches over you will not slumber; indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.”

Psalm 121:3-4
How often have you stayed up too late to finish a task, watch a movie, or be with friends? You may have awakened the next day tired and rushed. On mornings like that, it’s hard to be quiet for reading the Bible or praying. The entire day you bring with you a sense of disconnectedness from God. String a few days like this together and before you know it, God feels distant. Your desire to be with Him wanes. Your spiritual practices become less routine and more scarce. Sound familiar?

Controlling your bedtime may be a simple measure you could take to develop a richer devotional life. A little discipline in the evening might mean you could start the day by taking some time with the Lord. The Apostle Paul speaks in 1 Corinthians about the need for self-discipline in our lives. Paul worked hard at it. For some of us, it may be a challenge to order our waking and sleeping hours more wisely.

Try to get a good night’s sleep, and rest well knowing the Lord who never slumbers watches over you and cherishes time with you.
