"Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name."
(PSALM 100:4)

Psalm 100
Does the glass often seem “half-empty” to you? Feeling downhearted, I once made a list of all the people and things of which God had deprived me. What an extravagant pity party! But then God tenderly reminded me that He had first given me those kind bosses, dear friends and loving relatives. My self-pity turned to praise for the many ways He’s blessed me over the years.

Directing yourself to the Psalms when you feel miserable is a good idea. Will you find 150 hymns of encouragement and thanksgiving like Psalm 100? You’ll find many, but you also will encounter the very real cries of desperation from the writers – cries of the heart when they, too, wondered if the glass was “half-empty.” Their words are written from the depths of despair, assuring you that you are not alone in your distress.

Eventually, I realized that I had benefitted from the way the Lord rearranged my life. Free from a stressful corporate job, I now write and use words to influence others for His glory. My glass was “half-full”
all along!
