During a ski trip, Craig and Susan Phelps were hit by an 18-wheeler, the impact so powerful that all four of their children were ejected from their van. In the darkness, the distraught parents were able to locate their children by hearing their crying – but just three. Their precious son had passed on. The devastated family sat for 45 minutes waiting for an ambulance in the Texas wilderness.


While flying to the funeral, Susan’s brother-in-law, Don, was reading in Isaiah, Chapter 43: “I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert” (v. 19). God inspired him with a song, which he sang to Susan and Craig after the service while holding them in his arms: “God will make a way where there seems to be no way.”


Two years later, the Lord led Don Moen to start using “God Will Make a Way” publicly. It has become a beloved favorite and an invaluable help to people undergoing all types of anguish. No situation is too stark for God to make a way in; Jesus is our ever-present oasis of love and hope.
