"Salt is good, but if it loses its saltiness, how can you make it salty again? Have salt in yourselves,
and be at peace with each other."
(MARK 9:50)

Leviticus 2:13
Luke 14:34
As a compiler of cookbooks over the years, I’ve been surprised to come across so many recipes that omit salt. I always add it in, because I know that any dish is made more savory by the addition of even a small amount. Many of the meats we enjoy have been preserved and made more delicious through salt processing. The iodine in salt is deemed to be a nutrient necessary to good health.

Flavor…preservation…health! Is it any wonder God chooses salt as an illustration for the presence and work of the Holy Spirit in our lives? As we yield to His control, the flavor of our lives is enhanced; the full spectrum of our attitudes, motives and behaviors improves.

But when salt becomes wet, its flavor, preservative and nutritional power are leached away. Similarly, our lives lose the powerful working of the Holy Spirit if we allow sin to seep in and saturate our souls. As water strips salt of its very essence, so sin destroys the “abundant life,” diluting our effectiveness as ambassadors for Christ in our world.
