"In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you."
(JOHN 14:2)

John 14:1-14
My son had a bad dream: “There was a big building with lots of rooms. And all the people in the rooms told me they didn’t like me anymore, and I had to leave. So I went outside and sat on the step and they looked at me from the windows.” I was stunned by this not only because it was different than the usual dream descriptions, but because it uncovers a fear we have, even as adults. What if all the people got together and decided we were “out”?

I told Eli the Bible talks about a house with many rooms, but it’s the Father’s House. And instead of telling people to get out, Jesus unlocks the door for us and brings in the people sitting on the step. We are those people. This is the heart of the Gospel. Jesus takes outsiders and rejects, and He prepares a room for them in the only big building that really matters. A warm welcome awaits. It’s a good reminder for us not to close doors behind people and look at them from high windows because Jesus – the One who at the cross knew total rejection, even from the Father – has welcomed us in.
