"Your statutes are my heritage forever; they are the joy of my heart."
(PSALM119:111)

Psalm 119:105-112
A poll conducted in 2015 by the American Bible Society and The Barna Group found that 88% of American households say they own a Bible. That’s a pretty striking number when you consider the rise of unbelief in our modern era. It shows that high majorities in America believe the Bible is an important book. But a 2014 poll shows that only 37% of those polled actually read their Bible once a week or more.

What a sad disconnect. The Bible is God’s main way to communicate truth with humanity, yet so many are not regularly reading it. Unfortunately, reading the Bible can feel more like a chore. So how can we turn an apparent duty into a delight?

The key is to see it as a communication device rather than a textbook. We need to be praying and actively talking to God as we read His Word.
Our world is full of darkness and folly, but God’s Word is full of light and wisdom. The Bible is a lamp for our feet and a light for our path. As we humbly approach our Creator, it’s astonishing that He wants to communicate with us.
