“Through him and for his name’s sake, we received grace…to call people from among all the Gentiles to the obedience that comes from faith. And you also are among those who are called to belong to Jesus Christ.”

Romans 1:5-6
The book of Romans is a detailed exposition of the Gospel. It takes us from the earliest effects of sin in the human race, through the history of redemption, to the glory in the New Heaven and New Earth. Throughout the next weeks, this Anchor will hit some of the “mountain top” points of Romans. We’ll be like eagles flying from one end of the Rocky Mountains to the other, landing on peaks here and there.
The first high point is from Paul’s opening words to the believers in Rome. From these very first verses, already encouragement comes. You could hardly find a person today who does not desire at some level to belong. It’s why you can join a club for just about anything from A to Z. It’s why fan groups start. It’s even a big part of why people go to church. We want to belong.
To know that we are among those “called to belong to Jesus Christ” is of great assurance. When all the other circles we could belong to in this life fall short, remember that we belong to the One who gave His whole life to purchase us.
